!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Sigh. So I’ve done a couple sketches when I have moments. Haven’t tackled what it looks like at the back, yet. Kinda looking at a 1980s X New Ford GT thing. So it’ll mean a lot of empty space at the back, but I think it needs big swaths of stainless, and carbon bits exposed.

, if you didn’t know. But the DeLorean is, in my book, the last great design that Giugiaro ever did, so.... it’s a tough one.
Hope to have some more time to fart around with this one. I love the idea.
As always, thanks to y’all for the workouts. I need them.

While I don’t doubt that the car, or “car” per se will remain a staple of industrial design and engineering, I think it’ll be interesting to see how the designs adapt to what the “car” evolves to become.
Just of curiousity, I’d be interested to hear who your favorite IDers are.
While I didn’t go to school for ID, I did go to a design school and probably should’ve gone for ID, and I appreciate getting to see your sketches and sort of live/dream through those.

Love it.
Maybe more of a Kammback thing in the rear to get the profile right? It might need the rear window... I love the lower part of the vent mimicking the door cut line, but does the upper part of the vent need to be more vertical to be more DeLorean and less Ford GT?
How to reference the strong vertical elements here in a modern interpretation...?

That’s a tough thing. Like, look at electric scooters. I get the use case, but they’re terribly-used and everyone hates them. And people die, needlessly, riding them.
And then there’s minimum-mass trasportation, like Local Motors’s Olli. It’s a great idea for a limited space.
And then there are cars, which are giant expenses, in every sector of the world.
And then there’s emotion, which is another thing entirely.
I don’t know what the answer is. I’ve been driving a cheap electric car for almost 2 years, and it’s the carbon-framed spaceship I’ve always wanted, but I can’t just go out and drive the western US, like I could in my old cars.
It’s pretty complicated. Finding the right answers for the right people is the big question mark.
I want to drive for fun. In my actual life, if I could just let someone else do it, I would. maybe ex-drone pilots start driving cars.

I like your point. The verticals are such a big part of it. Front, back, and middle. No clue yet how the back might go. I guess the question comes down to performance vs useful.

Looking forward to seeing the evolution.

I see what you mean, but when I look at the DeLorean, I think that the upright look of the car could be made so much more sleek by taking all the angles and slanting them a bit, and it would still invoke the original design . Like, you take this pic above and apply a simple transform to skew it and use that as a starting point.
Then again, I’m not a designer, and I didn’t even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I don’t know if what’s under the left-most circle is supposed to be glass reflection or is a design detail, but if it’s a detail I think you could emphasize that a little bit more to pick up that element davesaddiction is talking about. He’s right, the original DeLorean was pretty upright, but I think you really captured it’s style in a sleeker way, and working in an element like that vent he was highlighting can be a cool throwback to the original but making it slanty works with your sleeker look.
Also, you said you aren’t sure about the rear, but I LOVE what you’re teasing there with the little lip overhang. I’m imagining the rear deck starting at the B pillar (second circle) and sloping back, pinching in slightly above the light area. Maybe even a flying buttress? I’m torn, I think they are cool but maybe not right for a DeLorean.
Everybody makes lights now that roll with the body lines, so I love the idea of a rear panel that’s tucked under that lip, inset a little bit. And then have the light raised back up out of it a little bit.
This is great work though,
keep it up. I like your style and your take on cars. I
can’t wait to see what you do next. (
I’m still voting for late
